Quality Control in Construction Schedules – Part 1

by | Mar 31, 2023 | Blogs | 0 comments

Quality Control or reviewing the schedule quality before the scheduler submits their schedule to the client (either it is the contractor, consultant, or client) is very important to avoid any inaccurate information such as wrong start dates, sequence of work, and project critical path. Having a low-quality schedule would affect the essence of the schedule and will lead to some consequences or delays in the project timeline.

What are the benefits of a quality-controlled construction schedule?

  • The procurement process will become smooth – the procurement team will have an efficient forecast for the long-lead items, equipment, and labor.
  • Critical Path will be more accurate – identifying critical tasks/paths are necessary to determine scheduling flexibilities and see what activities would be important to be completed on time for the project milestones to become achievable.
  • All activity’s criticality will be more accurate – the total float in each activity will be accurate since the predecessor and successor have been checked or quality-controlled. This will be helpful to see how much time each activity has to become a delaying factor in the project target.
  • Labor and Equipment can be planned efficiently – the labor trades can be planned efficiently, same with equipment since the schedule is quality-controlled.
  • Project Monitoring will be smooth – quality-controlled sequence and activities granularity will help the monitoring of the project easily.
  • Variation Analysis preparation will become easy – preparing delay analysis for claim/extension of time will be easier since the schedule is properly updated/maintained.
